“The Road Warrior,” starring Mel Gibson, is one of the few sequels in modern movie making times that didn’t come hot on the heels of the original movie. Of course, there is the brief description of what got him to this place, how the world ended up to where it is. But one of the great things about this movie is that is enough. Knowledge of the previous movie is not a requirement for enjoying this stunning tale.

We quickly see that Max spends most of his time in search for food, and fuel. Then he comes across something strange out in the wasteland. He finds a collection of people in a small fortified city, in the middle of the wasteland. They have a huge wall around their city, and are strongly fortified in other ways. For they have something very precious to defend. They have a huge tanker of fuel.

Of course, it doesn’t take long for the loose gang of bandits to surround the city, and demand the gasoline. They inform them that they won’t destroy their city if they give them the gasoline. The inhabitants of this city seem to be between a rock and hard place. They have a plan to take their fuel, and escape to an area that is safe, and free from bandits and outlaws. A place where they can start fresh, and build a new society. The problem is, they don’t have a way to transport the tanker of gas. Max, a recently admitted to their city, has a solution.

Only a few days ago, Max has seen a suitable vehicle to haul their tanker to the promised land. The only problem is how to get to the vehicle, bring it back to the fortified city, and get the tanker of gas out of there without getting killed by the bandits. Fortunately, Max has a plan. Along with his flying friend, they hatch a plan to secure the vehicle and bring it back to the city.

And this is the crux of the movie. The conflict between the city people, who are only after a safe life free from death, and the bandits, who want to take everything from them. As luck would have it, they have a secret plan that even our hero, Max, doesn’t know about. And this will make all the difference. This movie was so popular that it caused many to go out and see the original that otherwise didn’t know if it’s existence. It is a must see if you haven’t seen it, and is filled with memorable scenes and quotes, so you may consider it as an addition to your video library.
